This text explains and explores the rise and decline of U.S. support for Operation Condor. It examines the ideological foundations of Condor, how and why the United States became involved, and how massive human rights abuses were justified in the name of the Cold War. It also shows how “defending democracy” and preventing countries from becoming communist were used as banners to legitimize state terror across Latin America.
